Diagnostic Laparoscopy

Diagnostic laparoscopy for severe stomach pain

Diagnostic Laparoscopic is the process of finding out the reasons for severe stomach pain and other stomach ailments by using a laparoscope inserted into the abdomen. The reasons for infertility in females such as defects of uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries etc are also found out during diagnostic laparoscopy. If the reason for infertility is found, the surgeon can conduct the necessary corrections in the abdomen by inserting instruments through other incisions and carrying out the surgery. Laparoscopic diagnosis is done when x-ray or ultra sound tests are unable to diagnose the real reasons for stomach pain or infertility

Diagnostic laparoscopy is generally done under general anesthesia. This procedure can be done under local anesthesia also. When this is done under local anesthesia, numbness is felt only around the area where the surgery is carried out and you will be awake when the surgery is being carried out. An instrument named laparoscope is inserted into your abdomen through small incisions in the abdomen and the instruments for surgery are allowed to enter through other incisions. A gynecologic laparoscopy ink is sprayed insider your cervix area which makes the fallopian tubes more visible to the surgeon.

Do not eat or drink 8 hours prior to the time of this test. You will also have to sign a consent form. If the test is done under general anesthesia you will not feel any pain or will not know anything about the operation. If you are given only a local anesthesia you may feel burning sensation along the area and the insertion of laparoscope may cause pressure on the muscular tissues. You may feel some pain over the area where the incisions were made.

The medicines given by the doctor will be enough for relieving you from the pain. You may also have shoulder pain and an increased inclination for urination. You will be required stay in the hospital overnight and you may not go home driving your vehicle. Normal results prove that the organs are not inflicted by cancer and that the ovaries, uterus and the fallopian tubes are of normal size. Abnormal results suggest infliction of diseases like tumors, fibroid, cysts in ovaries, appendicitis etc.
